Getting Your Kids To Eat Right
Today more than ever society is on a very fast pace.
Because of this our health is at risk. This is evident when you see
how many hamburgers McDonald's serves daily not to mention the fast
food industry in its entirety. Television is almost considered an
enemy to parents who are trying to teach their children good health
habits.
Persuading your child to develop good eating habits can be a
challenge, to say the least. Here's where you can begin:
Start your child's day with a good breakfast. Hot cereal is an
excellent alternative to over sweetened breakfast foods that are
being constantly pitched on TV.
Buy snacks low in fat, sugar, and salt. Fresh fruit, and unbuttered
popcorn, whole-grain muffins, juice, low-fat milk, and yogurt are
tasty, nutritious foods that appeal to kids. Crackers with small
amounts of peanut butter or cheese are also acceptable between meal
treats.
Limit fast food meals. A steady diet of fast food menu items tend
put your body into an imbalance. Fast food items are high in fat and
generally don't provide all the essential nutrients a child needs.
Don't punish or reward behavior with food. Punishing children by
withholding food can deprive them of required nutrients. Rewarding
them with food can encourage overeating and weight gain.

Set a good example. Your kids can't be expected to adopt good eating
habits if you're not.
Pack your kids school lunches with nutrition packed food. Beware of
convenience foods that claim to be nutritious. Make sure you read
the label before you buy items such as fruit drinks, breakfast bars,
and pre-popped popcorn for example.
It has been well documented that foods served today do not
necessarily contain all the nutrients needed for optimum health.
Doctors and nutritionists recommend that we supplement our meals
daily with natural multi-vitamins.
