A Natural Approach to
Regulating Your Blood Sugar Levels
Diabetic's are people with
abnormal levels of sugar (glucose) in their blood stream which can
cause vision loss, infections, and poor circulation, kidney and
heart problems.
When the body is functioning normally the food we eat is converted
into glucose and used or stored by the body. In normal circumstances
the circulating insulin hormone stimulates the uptake of sugar by
the body's cells. People with diabetes have problems with their
pancreas. This is the organ responsible for producing insulin. Two
things can happen it either stops producing the hormone completely.
This is called type I diabetes or it produces too much which leads
to insulin resistance. This is known as type II diabetes. In either
case blood sugar levels are out of control. Type I diabetics are
insulin-dependent and need daily insulin injections. Type II
diabetics are non-insulin-dependent. This is the most common form of
the disease and usually do not require insulin injections but Type
II diabetics need to improve their sugar metabolism.
Type II diabetics can be treated with drugs, but more doctors are
turning to natural vitamins and supplements, along with diet and
exercise to reduce blood sugar.

A common trait that Type II diabetics have is being overweight. It
has been reported that diabetics losing as little as 10 pounds can
make a difference. It's important to control your weight as much as
possible. Be sure to take a sensible approach to weight loss. Avoid
fad diets, fasting and skipping meals. The best way to control
weight is to decrease the amount of dietary fat you consume daily.
Exercise is essential for Type II diabetics. Spend 45 minutes to an
hour taking a good brisk walk every day. This will help correct
insulin resistance and normalize your body weight
It has been reported having more muscle and less fat improves
insulin sensitivity, so less insulin is needed to respond to sugar
in the blood. With that being said weight training is highly
effective in controlling diabetes.
Be careful of what you eat many low-fat or fat-free foods being
marketed today include a high amount of refined sugar so that they
can taste good. The best approach to take is to skip sugar intake
and satisfy your sweet tooth with fruit.
