A good healthy immune system is vital for
our health. The main function of the immune
system is to fight off diseases: cold, flu,
infections, bacteria, molds, fungus, cancer
cells, etc.
Sometimes the immune system is sent the wrong
signal and thinks that a harmless alien
substance is an enemy. The immune system then
causes your body to have an allergic reaction,
for example; asthma, hay fever, and skin
rashes to name a few. The immune system
attacks the normal body tissues which will
cause the body develop an autoimmune disease
such as autoimmune hepatitis of the liver,
lupus, Sjogren’s disease,
arthritis, and
diabetes.
What is so extraordinary about the immune
system is its ability to remember every
foreign protein that it encounters. Attacks by
virus or organisms cause our body to create
antibodies that the immune system will
recognize in the future. The immune system
will then develop a plan to fight against it
any future attack. This method is called
acquired immunity, this is what makes the
vaccinations that we receive work and combat
the disease.
When the immune system is disturbed because of
illnesses, cancer and other infections, our
immune system then becomes undermined by a
number of stresses such as viruses and other
attacking organisms. To combat these attacks
successfully antibiotics and sulfa drugs were
developed to kill most of these bacterial
infections. The second method of treatment
doctors prescribe is mediation to lower the
immune system for example immuran; this drug
keeps the immune system from attacking itself.
This method of treatment is most helpful for
in autoimmune diseases or stopping a rejection
from happening when a patient has received an
organ transplant.
The immune system is an amazing part of the
body’s network of systems and can be kept in
healthy order not only by prescribed drugs but
also through diet and vitamins.
Our diets play an important role in protecting
our immune system. Research has found that our
diets should include plenty of fruits,
vegetables, and 2 to 3 servings of fish per
week.
Our immune systems need a good supplement that
includes; Omega-fatty acids, Vitamin A, C,
zinc, astragalus root, cat claw and grapefruit
seed. A diet that includes all the above will
boost the immune systems defenses to gain
optimum health. Back to
