ADHD Diet for Children - Plan Fruit
and
Supplements Into Their Menu
Studies
have shown that a balanced diet is essential for children, who
suffer from symptoms such as lack of focus, hyperactive, and bad
behavior that are linked to
ADHD.
In creating a well balanced diet, you must include the entire food
group focusing on vegetables, proteins, complex carbohydrate, and
fruits. Nutritionists have found that when a well balanced diet is
given consistently to ADHD children, it reduces hyperactivity,
increases focus, and behavior becomes better.
Dr. Ned Hallowell founder of the Hallowell Center for Cognitive and
Emotional Health, in Sueur, Massachusetts and New York says “All of
my ADHD patients should always think about their plates when
preparing a meal. Half the plate, he recommends should be filled
with fruit or vegetables, ¼ with protein, and ¼ with carbohydrates.”
He also says, “Eating several servings of whole gains which are rich
in fiber each day prevents blood sugars levels from spiking and then
plummeting.”
There is an old saying that breakfast is the most important meal of
the day. Eating a good breakfast is essential for
children that have been
diagnosed with ADHD. Proteins should be included in the child’s
breakfast everyday. Studies have shown proteins manufacture brain
awaking neurotransmitter. The neurotransmitter releases chemicals
though the brain cells that talk with one another so the brain can
tell the ADHD child what is acceptable in behavior and inattention.
Including proteins such as pork, fish, chicken, lean beef, eggs,
nuts, and low fat dairy products can prevent surges in blood sugar.
Preventing the surges, keeps the ADHD child’s hyperactivity down.
If there are deficiencies in each of the food groups mentioned
children with ADHD symptoms seem to worsen. Serving the child a well
balanced diet will get an adequate level of the right food to
optimize the child’s the brain function.
Poor eating habits don’t cause children to get ADHD. Doctors and
nutritionists will almost always prescribe a well balance diet. That
is the key to helping control the symptoms of ADHD in children. |
